Best Laparoscopic And Robotic Hysterectomy (Uterus Removal Surgery) In Lahore By Prof. Dr Rehana Aamer Khan (MMS, FCPS)
Some women face heavy periods caused by many severe problems, like fibroids. Moreover, Pelvic pain may be caused by endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), adenomyosis, or fibroids. Then Uterus Removal or Hystterectormy becomes critical.
Fibroids and adenomyosis are two gynecological conditions that can be treated in several different ways. Above all, treatment options include medical management, interventional procedures, or surgery. There are options for those who want to preserve their uterus and fertility, but it never always works for everyone.
If fibroids or adenomyosis do not improve with other treatments, a hysterectomy may be recommended. This is a final action, which means it cannot be undone or undone. This also means it can permanently eliminate all symptoms of fibroids and adenomyosis.
At National Hospital Lahore, our standard of care is a hysterectomy using a minimally invasive approach. This can be done in one of three ways; vaginally, using laparoscopic techniques, or robotic assistance. The minimally invasive procedure causes less pain, fewer adhesions, and faster recovery than a traditional "open" hysterectomy.
Rehana Amir is well qualified and trained Laparoscopic Surgeon. She got her training from Sharjah and Belgium for Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeries, respectively. Visit her today for any GYN problems.
Why do we go for a hysterectomy for a patient?
We go for a hysterectomy for the patient with severe symptoms or someone who wishes to resolve symptoms of fibroids or adenomyosis permanently. The main benefit of this procedure is that it can provide relief for the rest of your life.
Having a hysterectomy means you won`t get your period, and you won`t be able to get pregnant, so it`s not the right option for someone who wants to have a baby in the future.
In the National Hospital Lahore Fibroids and Adenomas Program, you will undergo a comprehensive assessment by a team of fibroids specialists to determine your suitability for a hysterectomy.
Precautions we take,
Robotic and laparoscopic hysterectomies are safe procedures, but all operations carry some risks. Some potential risks of hysterectomy, although less common, include:
Additionally, there may be different risks depending on your exact medical condition. Don`t worry about anything when you have Prof. Dr Rehana Aamer Khan. She is trained to solve and treat all your problems. Call or visit today.
Misconceptions about hysterectomy or uterus removal surgery
Hysterectomy and Menopause:
One of the most common misconceptions about hysterectomy is that the surgery will put you in menopause, which is invalid.
Menopause is related to ovarian function.
The uterus and, sometimes, the cervix are removed in a hysterectomy. The procedure does not cause menopause because the ovaries continue to produce hormones until menopause occurs naturally.
However, deciding to keep or remove the ovaries is a separate procedure, depending on your medical condition and discussions between you and your surgeon. If one or both ovaries need to be removed, this can be done simultaneously as a hysterectomy.
Hysterectomy and Sexual Function:
Many patients are concerned about sexual function or libido after a hysterectomy, thinking that it will negatively affect their sexual function. Often, women feel no change during intercourse and their ability to orgasm after surgery. In fact, it is common for patients to enjoy more sex after a hysterectomy because they no longer have symptoms of fibroids or adenomyosis.
Uterus Removal Surgery or Hysterectomy Options
For hysterectomy surgery, which is the surgical removal of the uterus, there are mainly two types:
A supracervical (or partial) hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus, not the cervix.
In a whole hysterectomy, surgeons remove both uterus and cervix.
Prof. Dr Rehana Aamer Khan will discuss whether to keep or remove the cervix and uterus. The cervix is usually removed in the presence of pelvic pain, abnormal uterine bleeding, and abnormal Pap smears. However, the fallopian tubes are removed during surgery to reduce the future risk of developing certain types of cancer.
Laparoscopic hysterectomy:
A laparoscopic hysterectomy is a minimally invasive hysterectomy. During this procedure, the uterus is viewed using a thin, lighted endoscope with a camera on end called a laparoscope. A small instrument is then inserted through an incision in the pelvis to perform surgery to remove the uterus.
Robotic hysterectomy:
Robotic hysterectomy is similar to laparoscopic hysterectomy, except that the surgeon sits at a console away from the patient to control robotic surgical tools. The surgeon controls the robot`s movements stably and precisely. This allows surgeons to access tight spaces more efficiently and gain a better surgical field of vision than traditional laparoscopic surgery.
Vaginal hysterectomy:
A vaginal hysterectomy is another minimally invasive surgical method to remove the uterus. Depending on the size and location of the uterus fibroids, this procedure may be performed in some patients. It is generally not recommended for patients with pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, or suspected endometriosis.
The decision to perform robotic, laparoscopic, or vaginal hysterectomy depends on patient preference and surgeon experience. All gynecologic surgeons in National Hospital Lahore are experts in all three procedures.
What happens during a laparoscopic or robotic hysterectomy?
Before surgery, you will be under general anesthesia until you fall asleep. Usually, the surgery can last three to four hours.
During the surgery, surgeons make three or four small incisions near the navel. After that, out the laparoscope into your abdomen. Then, insert other surgical instruments through other incisions. The uterus can be removed through the vagina, or it may need to be cut into small pieces, protected in a pouch that can be removed through one of the small incisions in the abdomen. After surgery, the incision is closed with some sutures and covered with a bandage.
Minimally invasive surgery is usually performed as an outpatient procedure, and you can leave the hospital after a few hours of observation.
What happens during recovery?
Some women experience cramping and pain in the first few weeks after surgery, but this should not be severe. There may be light vaginal bleeding for one to two weeks. You should start walking the day after surgery, and you can return to normal activities and work within three to four weeks.
It`s important not to insert anything into the vagina for six to eight weeks until your doctor says it`s okay. This includes sexual intercourse and tampons. You can resume intercourse only after the surgeon has said so to avoid the risk of dehiscence (separation of vaginal sutures).
Recovery complications to watch out for:
Be sure to contact your doctor if the pain is not controlled with pain medication and if you experience heavy vaginal bleeding, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or difficulty or pain in urination in the days following surgery.
Follow-up Care:
A post-op visit will be scheduled two weeks after surgery. However, the surgeon will perform an endoscopy four to six weeks after surgery to check for healing. Additional follow-up visits will be made based on your recovery.
National Hospital Lahore staff and doctors are always available to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
